The time it was about Killer Weekend

When I got the invite to watch a screener for the first time, I basically screamed.  I don’t think it’s a secret that I’m trying to do more press/media things, so getting this invite was so very exciting.

Zombies are my favorite, but throw in a group of friends + a paintball stag party + drinking and I just knew it was going to be fun. And once I watched the trailer, I couldn’t stop laughing…

Title: Killer Weekend
Director: Ben Kent
Format: Digital and DVD
Time: 85 minutes
Release date: February 18, 2020
Distribution: Dark Sky Films/MPI Media

A groom-to-be and his buddies go on a paintball battle that turns horribly, and hilariously, wrong in KILLER WEEKEND.

When Sam discovers that his stag weekend not only is a mock zombie survival experience, but that his disapproving father-in-law-to-be has also been invited, he couldn’t be more annoyed. But when the bachelor party arrives to find the “zombies” are in fact a bunch of psychotic ex-soldiers, their fantasy weekend quickly starts to look like a nightmare.

After a series of unfortunate mishaps finds the group trapped in a disused nuclear bunker besieged by the bloodthirsty troops, Sam must ask himself: Is it all still just a game, or is it actually game over?

Cast: Sean Verey (The Hot Potato, EastEnders), Mark Heap (Upstart Crow), Danny Kirrane (Dont Forget the Driver) and Ewen MacIntosh (Shed of the Dead)

Before we get to my top 5 reasons to watch, let’s check out the trailer.

Top 5 Reasons to watch Killer Weekend:

  • the characters — this is a group of friends who have known each other since they were kids…plus their dentist
  • the humor — British comedies are always super dry and my sort of thing
  • the zombies — okay, they’re not really zombies, but it still counts
  • the pacing — this starts off with a bang and keeps going until the very end
  • the ending — the movie went off in a direction I wasn’t expecting and I loved it

We enjoyed this one so much we ended up watching it three different times and I can’t wait to get my hands on a physical copy.  If you like Shaun of the Dead, this one might be for you.

Huge thanks to Dark Sky Films and MPI Media Group for screener, photos, and trailer.

What do you think? Will you be watching Killer Weekend? What’s your favorite zombie movie?
