The time it was Reading Rewind {16}

Hi guys! Here we are for another episode of Reading Rewind!

I’ll be completely honest: I am totally cheating on this one. I didn’t have any plan to do a RR this month, but then I ended up doing some rereading on my own. It just so happened that I changed the rating on one of the books I read, so here we are.

This month’s choice was The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater! This was the first Maggie book that I read and I’ve been eager to do a lazy sort of binge reread as I’ve only read each book one time.

1. When did you originally read the book and what did you rate it?

I read the book in August 2012 and rated it 3.5 stars.

2. Why did you love it?

My review said:

It started off perfectly, lost me in the middle and then I was back at the end.

I really liked the imagery and Maggie writes like no one else I’ve ever read before. I think I was a little overwhelmed with the mythology [for lack of a better word] that propelled the plot.

Great characters, but the little snippets we got of each of them wasn’t enough. I wanted to see more about Blue and her “lack” of power [not to mention her kissing prophecy] and it was mostly focused on Gansey.

I’m definitely interested in the next book. I want to see what happens next.

I haven’t even seen that review until the day that I typed it up and I can see how past Stacee was confused.

3. After the re-read did your rating/feelings about it change? Why or why not?

I rated the re-read 5 stars.  As I said above, TRB was my first Maggie book and I wasn’t really prepared for the way she writes.  She is one of the only authors whose writing forces me to read every single word on the page.  I think being familiar with the entire series {even if I don’t remember a lot of the finer details} really helped me appreciate the writing and the world building.

Of course I wanted more of what past Stacee wanted: more of the boys together with Blue and more shenanigans and just more more more, but overall it is really lovely and so satisfying.

I’m in the middle of Dream Thieves now and I’m going slow because it’s my favorite one, but I can’t wait to reread all of them.
