The time it was a mutiny {14}

Hi guys! Welcome to another edition of the mutiny.

What’s the mutiny you ask? Well, I have always said that I wasn’t going to become a review blog and yet, I’ve had this itch in the back of my head… so here we are. I’m waging a mutiny against myself and I’m going to do some mini reviews + feature upcoming reads I’m excited about.

For this specific edition, I’m going to share some of my favorite reads from February, so settle in!

The Upside of Falling by Alex Light — 4★ — I had seen this one floating around social media and loads of people said it was pure fluff.  I really liked Becca and Brett. They’re both smart and loyal and not nearly as different as they think they are. I liked the open communication and how the issues and conflict that came up didn’t last too long. The description on GR says it’s 416 pages and that doesn’t seem right. It was paced more like a novella and I would have loved a more fleshed out story.

Deadly Obsession by April Hunt — 4★ — I heard about this one from a friend who was gifted a copy from the publisher. I’m always looking for a good thriller, so I grabbed it from the library. I really liked Zoey and Knox. She’s stronger than everyone thinks and wants to do new things. He’s a straight up alpha with a past guilt. Together they have a long history and loads of button pushing and sass. There were a few suspects and every time I thought I had it figured out, something would shift. Getting the killer’s POV was an added and super creepy bonus.  I can’t wait for book two and it’s been on hold at the library since I finished this one.

Chasing Cassandra by Lisa Kleypas — 5★ — I love love loved Cassandra. She’s sweet and loving and desperately wants to belong to someone who loves her. Tom is a little aloof, crazy smart, and thinks his heart is frozen. Together they have loads of chemistry and logical conversation. There’s a lot of scenes where they’re together and loads of kissing, but also a good amount of push and pull. I wanted more time with them together as a married couple; however, the chapter of negotiations was the best. I don’t care what LK puts out, I’m going to read it.

The Museum of Desire by Jonathan Kellerman — 4★ — I think I’ve read every Alex Delaware book there is and it’s always exciting to settle into a new one. Alex is a good character. He’s smart, but accessible; charming, but not smarmy; and loyal loyal loyal. He’s a genuinely good person and I always enjoy being in his head. Milo is a delight and it was fantastic seeing Robin and Blanche. Right from the start, I was captivated. There are several moving pieces and as usual, it had me guessing that everyone was guilty and I reveled in the slow reveals. Reading an Alex book is like sort of like coming home: comforting and familiar. I think I will always pick these books up.

Eight Perfect Murders by Peter Swanson — a bookseller in the middle of an investigation because the murders are coming from books? This sounds like everything I could ever want.

All Your Twisted Secrets by Diana Urban — a locked room with a group of kids who have nothing in common…oh and a bomb, a syringe of poison and a note that says pick someone to die or the everyone dies? Yes. Please.

The Return by Rachel Harrison — A missing BFF who returns on the two year anniversary with memory loss? nodnodnod

The Honey-Don’t List by Christina Lauren — A CLo book with what sounds like a fake relationship slash rivals to love? I’m absolutely here for it.

What about you? Have you read any of these books or do you want to?

      I’m so excited to get to The Honey-Don’t List and I agree! I’ve loved everything CLo has put out.

      Thanks for reading and commenting!

  1. I’ve seen The Upside of Falling around recently and I’m just in love with the cover! I’m glad that you enjoyed it! Pure fluff is always a good time in my book.

    And that one line synopsis for All Your Twisted Secrets has me so intrigued! I don’t read mystery/thrillers, but that book makes me want to give them a chance! I feel like I need to know why all that insanity is happening, even more than I want to know the ending itself!
