When I got the invite to participate in the blog tour for Songs From the Deep by Kelly Powell, I was intrigued. I haven’t had a chance to read the book yet, but I love the synopsis and the cover and I can’t wait to start it.
Before we get to a mini interview with Kelly, let’s check out the book!

The sea holds many secrets.
Moira Alexander has always been fascinated by the deadly sirens who lurk along the shores of her island town. Even though their haunting songs can lure anyone to a swift and watery grave, she gets as close to them as she can, playing her violin on the edge of the enchanted sea. When a young boy is found dead on the beach, the islanders assume that he’s one of the sirens’ victims. Moira isn’t so sure.
Certain that someone has framed the boy’s death as a siren attack, Moira convinces her childhood friend, the lighthouse keeper Jude Osric, to help her find the real killer, rekindling their friendship in the process. With townspeople itching to hunt the sirens down, and their own secrets threatening to unravel their fragile new alliance, Moira and Jude must race against time to stop the killer before it’s too late—for humans and sirens alike.
Sounds good, right?
1. Please give the elevator pitch for Songs From the Deep.
A violinist and a lighthouse keeper endeavor to solve a murder on their island, where deadly sirens live in the depths below.
2. Which came first: the world or the characters?
The characters, but the world came pretty quickly after.
3. Why do you love Moira and Jude and why should we root for them?
I love Moira’s perseverance and determination. She’s an introvert and can often be found playing her violin out on the cliffs overlooking the sea, watching sirens. Jude has such a kind heart and he wears it on his sleeve. He takes pride in his work keeping the light, and he’s a good listener and very empathetic.
4. What was the weirdest thing you googled while researching?
Nothing too strange, I think. I did a lot of research into the technical side of lighthouses—how they were structured, what sort of lamps and fuel were used. I also read a lot of archived small-town newspapers.
