I am 100% on board with all things Marie Lu and even when I wasn’t sure about the gaming aspect of Warcross, I knew it was going to be good.  So when I got the invite to be on the blog tour, I couldn’t sign up fast enough.

Before I share my top 5 reasons to read Warcross, let’s check out the book.

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Marie Lu—when a game called Warcross takes the world by storm, one girl hacks her way into its dangerous depths.

For the millions who log in every day, Warcross isn’t just a game—it’s a way of life. The obsession started ten years ago and its fan base now spans the globe, some eager to escape from reality and others hoping to make a profit. Struggling to make ends meet, teenage hacker Emika Chen works as a bounty hunter, tracking down Warcross players who bet on the game illegally. But the bounty-hunting world is a competitive one, and survival has not been easy. To make some quick cash, Emika takes a risk and hacks into the opening game of the international Warcross Championships—only to accidentally glitch herself into the action and become an overnight sensation.

Convinced she’s going to be arrested, Emika is shocked when instead she gets a call from the game’s creator, the elusive young billionaire Hideo Tanaka, with an irresistible offer. He needs a spy on the inside of this year’s tournament in order to uncover a security problem . . . and he wants Emika for the job. With no time to lose, Emika’s whisked off to Tokyo and thrust into a world of fame and fortune that she’s only dreamed of. But soon her investigation uncovers a sinister plot, with major consequences for the entire Warcross empire.

In this sci-fi thriller, #1 New York Times bestselling author Marie Lu conjures an immersive, exhilarating world where choosing who to trust may be the biggest gamble of all.

Sounds good, right?

Top 5 Reasons to Read Warcross

1. Emika — She’s smart af and a really good person.  I loved being in her head and she was insanely easy to root for. Also, hello rainbow hair.

2. World building — It’s intricate, but not confusing and the imagery is top notch: both inside and outside the game.

3. Flirty swoons — Emika and Hideo are absolutely adorable together.  They’re from different backgrounds, but they’re very similar and I loved their banter.  I especially loved that Hideo immediately saw Emika as an equal.

“You’re more dangerous than I thought,” HIdeo muses, admiring my handiwork.

I offer him a smile. “I promise I’ll be nice to you.”

This time, I manage to coax a laugh from him. “Should I be even more concerned?” he says to me.  — page 168

4. Tension — This book will grab you from the first page and it doesn’t let go.  The scenes with the games are super fast paced and the rest of the story has a quiet anticipation that lets you relax until the next bombshell.  And even when it’s over, you won’t be done.  I’m still thinking of the ending and it’s the most delicious torture.

5. It’s Marie — I mean, do I even need to say anything else?

Not from the US, so bummer. I’m still waiting for my local book stores to have hardcover copies. *sigh*

Anyway, I would’ve put “It’s Marie” on the very top of the list. LOL. She’s my favorite!
