So, here we are for the first official post for Reading Rewind.

RRQ

If you follow me on Instagram, yesterday I posted a photo of the book Katie and I had chosen to read first.  And if you don’t, you should here it is!

That’s right! We chose Twilight because it was the first YA book both of us had ever read.  For me, I bought Twilight on a whim.  There was a bunch of press/hype about the movie, so I bought a copy out of curiosity.  But, it sat on my desk for a few months.  The only reason I picked it up when I did was because I didn’t have the next book in the Kathy Reichs series I was reading at the time.

Needless to say, I was hooked.  Thankfully, by the time I devoured Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse, Breaking Dawn was just a few days away from being released.  I actually took BD to a friend’s birthday party and hid out in a room to finish it.  I read the series several times over, but it’s been about 7 years since I picked any of them up.  I was a bit scared to see how it would fare…

1. When did you originally read the book and what did you rate it?

I first read Twilight in 2008 and I rated it 5 stars.

2. Why did you love it?

As I said above, it was the first YA book that I read and I think I loved it because it had all of the things I didn’t see in the “adult” books I was constantly reading.  I was reading Stephen King at 9 and had gone through all of Dean Koontz’s releases by the time I was 14. Twilight felt lighter, more enjoyable.

3. After the re-read did your rating/feelings about it change? Why or why not?

Not at all, I still love it.  I may even love it more.  I forgot how snarky Bella was.  She was constantly making snide remarks and I found myself cackling in several places.  Of course the sweet moments with Edward continued to make me grin like crazy.

I mean, I could definitely pick things out to complain about, but my fangirl heart just won’t let me because I’ve overlooked it all. If anything, the re-read made me realize how the movie was missing many elements that made the book so great for me. And now I’m dying to keep reading the rest of the series, but perhaps skimming the Jacob scenes certain sections.

  1. Sometimes I feel like Twilight gets a bad rap… it was one of my first introductions to YA, too! Haven’t even thought about picking it up in such a long time, though, and one of my Resolutions for this year is to read more of my fave books from when I was a kid. Maybe it’s time to give it another go!

I really enjoyed reading it again! I was really scared that I wouldn’t love it as much as I did when I first read it. Although I can definitely pick out things I don’t care for, I can overlook them. I hope you enjoy your reread if/when you do it.

      Thanks for reading and commenting!

  2. I love your enthusiasm for Twilight, Stacee :-) I agree with Savannah, that Twilight gets a bad rap. Some readers even feel ashamed to admit that they love(d) the series. I’m of the mind that you should NEVER apologize for loving a book, no matter how silly, boring, smutty, etc. someone else thinks it is.

As it did for us both, apparently, Twilight also introduced a great deal of bloggers we know and respect to the world of YA literature, and how could THAT be a bad thing. Amirite? :-D

  3. THIS WAS MY FIRST YA TOO! :D I’ve been meaning to re-read this series. I feel like there’s a lot about it that I won’t like, but it holds good memories in my heart. I want to see my nostalgia and criticism battle it out over this book xD I’m glad it held up for you. Twilight gets a lot of bad rap but I think I’d still like it.

You said it perfectly: my nostalgia and criticism definitely battled, but my fangirl heart won everything. I hope you enjoy your reread if/when you read it!

      Thanks for reading and commenting!

  4. Gorgeous post Stacee :D YAY for re-reading Twilight. <3 It has been SO MANY years since I read them too. Sigh. But I did give 5 stars to all the books.. I know I would also LOVE Twilight this time. But I also know that I would hate the next three books :p So I'm not sure I wish to re-read just yet, lol. But considering it :) So glad you finally re-read it, and that you loved it lots this time too. <3 Hugs.

I feel like I wouldn’t enjoy the other 3 books as much, but who knows. My fangirl heart tends to win everything.
      Thanks for reading and commenting!!

  5. I’m glad you loved your re-read! I read Twilight a few years ago as well but now I’m thinking I may want to pick it up! I supposed the negative reviews did affect my opinion, but I’m really excited to re-read it!
