the time it was a year end recap

Posted January 3, 2025 by Stacee in Discussion | 0 Comments

well, I don’t think I’ve ever done a yearly recap before, but I guess here we go.  I feel like I should warn you in advance that I have no idea what I’m doing, so this could be a mess.

Let’s start with the easy part first…

watching: tv

great British bake off — this has always been sort of a comfort show for me to watch, but I’ve never gotten further than a few episodes in a collection.  This year, I’ve binged several collections after (finally!!) getting Hubs to watch it.

what we do in the shadows — I started this a while back and it somehow slipped my mind to go back to it. I ended up watching/listening to this show while at work and it quickly became a favorite.  I’m pretty sad that it’s over, but I look forward to rewatching it again.

the afterparty — both seasons are fun and smart and pretty hilarious.  I love anything that can combine a mystery with a great set of characters and keep me guessing while I’m laughing.

cross — I received this show as a set of screeners and devoured it.  This show updates the story with an amazing cast and I can’t wait for more (there better be more.)

watching: movies

strange darling — this was a surprise pick when we had movie passes and I’m so glad we saw it.  It pairs disjointed unfolding with an unreliable narrator and I loved every minute of it.

woman of the hour — a true story about violence against women told from a woman’s point of view.  Anna Kendrick did an amazing job in how she directed this movie and showed compassion by not actually showing the crimes.

carry on — a last minute watch on christmas day because why not.  I love Jason Bateman and this was a delightfully tense take on a die hard like movie (mostly just because they both take place at airports)

listening

Florence + the Machine — Florence is my go-to when I can’t figure out exactly what I want to listen to.  She has so many emotions, so many ranges, that I know I’ll be able to feel whatever needs to be felt while listening.

The Cure — they put out a new album for the first time in 16 years and while I haven’t listened to it as much as I want to, I have been spending time with Anniversary to relive my front row memories.

Casefile — ever since Stephanie Perkins recommended this podcast to me, it’s taken the top spot for true crime favorites.  I love the way the case is presented and how nothing feels glorified. I have several episodes I listen to on repeat.

Lo-Fi Girl — surprising no one, I’m late to the party on listening to lo-fi beats.  I listen to the playlist that Apple Music updates, but if I’m feeling too lazy to log in, I’ll head over to YT to listen to Lo-Fi Girl’s channel.  She has several streams that I love when I just need some background sounds.

upcoming things

I think I got burnt out a bit mid 2024 and sort of stopped everything.  I wasn’t consistent in any aspect of the website or in social media.  I’m sure everyone can relate that at times, it can feel more overwhelming than fun to be an active participant online.  Or sometimes real life just needs more attention.

Regardless, I’m going to be working on being consistent, saying yes more often, and continuing to create content that I love, enjoy, and am proud of. (And I do have some things scheduled for the upcoming months, including some author interviews that I’m really excited about.)

Thanks for staying with me and here’s to a new year!

How was your 2024? What are you looking forward to in 2025?
