The time it was Reading Rewind {13}

Hi guys! Here we are for another episode of Reading Rewind!

It’s been a while since I did one of these. I think everyone knows I was sick for pretty much all of February and March, but in all that time, I had an idea of what I was going to read.  And then I saw Amy Tintera talking about a book she was reading and that’s all it took to change my mind.

This month, I chose Attachments!

This book has always been my favorite of Rainbow’s books and I don’t think it gets the amount of love that it should. Needless to say, I was quite eager to get to it.

1. When did you originally read the book and what did you rate it?

I read it in May of 2013 and rated it 5 stars.  It’s also on my “all of the stars” and “will forever reread” shelves.

2. Why did you love it?

Here is my original review for it:

This was just perfection. I adored the premise and the format it was written in was phenomenal. I LOVED that we got into Lincoln’s head and only knew Beth and Jennifer in the same way Lincoln did.

Beth is the sort of friend I want to have. I want to hang out and get drunk and probably arrested with her. She’s smart as hell, quick with a comeback and hilarious.

Lincoln is sweet and every descriptive word that Beth and Jennifer use for him is correct. He’s heartbroken at first, but it’s clear that he knows how to bring the swoon.

This book has definitely become one of my go to books to read when I’m in a slump. I will be pimping it out and rereading it forever.

3. After the re-read did your rating/feelings about it change? Why or why not?

I rated the re-read 5 stars and I still agree with everything in that review.

I loved Beth and Jennifer.  Their email exchanges were mostly hilarious and I definitely still want to hang out with them.  And while I still thought that Lincoln brought the swoon, I was irritated that he was so hung up on Sam.  It felt weird that he was almost 30 years old and sort of pining away for his high school love. The formatting is still the best part of this book.  I love that we only “meet” Beth and Jennifer through the emails.

I think the only thing that really changed for me is that I don’t think I would pick this up when I’m in a slump.  It felt a bit depressing at points and even though I still loved it, I’m not entirely sure it would be a slump-buster.

  1. Attachments is my favourite Ranbow Rowell book too and you’re right, it really doesn’t get enough love. I remember snorting with laughter right at the beginning of the book, and I love the friendship Beth and Jennifer have. I’m glad it stands up to repeated readings!
