I was invited to be a part of the Spring Fling Valentines tour by Nikki at Fiction Freak and chosen by Bethany Crandell. We were able to give a brief interview for our one author and then ask all of the authors one question. Since I had interviewed Bethany previously on her blog tour for Summer on the Short Bus, I decided to go with silly questions.
But before we get to all of the fun stuff, let’s check out the book, shall we?
Spoiled, Versace-clad Cricket Montgomery has seventeen years of pampering under her belt. So when her father decides to ship her off to a summer camp for disabled teens to help her learn some accountability, Cricket resigns herself to three weeks of handicapped hell.
Her sentence takes a bearable turn as she discovers the humor and likeability of the campers and grows close to fellow counselors. Now, if she can just convince a certain Zac Efron look-alike with amazing blue eyes that she finally realizes there’s life after Gucci, this summer could turn out to be the best she’s ever had.
Summer on the Short Bus is a very non-P.C., contemporary YA with a lot of attitude, tons of laughs, and a little life lesson along the way.
Sounds good, right?
1. A good friend comes to San Diego for the day and they’ve never been here before. Where do you take them?
Old Town. Nothing says San Diego like authentic Mexican food, good margaritas and limited parking.
2. You’re only able to be inside Disneyland for 30 minutes, there are no lines. What’s the plan?
Oh my gawd! 30 minutes—no lines?! WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO TO ME?!
*takes slow, deep breaths refusing to look at the Disneyland annual pass in her wallet*
Okay, so the plan: Obviously we’re hitting Adventure Land first because, hello! my super hero name is Adventure Girl. First, we’ll get soaked with Brer Rabbit and the other hicks, then we’ll head back up the road to get in a little pirate bootie before we hop in the Jeep and go off-roading with Dr. Jones. Assuming we can sprint the whole way, we’ll swing by Roger Rabbit’s place, and then knock back the Fantasy Land favorites before we head into Tomorrow Land for some alien target practice.
(For the non Disneyphiles out there, here’s the plan in lay terms: Splash Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, Indiana Jones, Toon Town Roller Coaster, Dumbo, Peter Pan, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride and Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters)
Yes, I’m aware I have a problem. Let’s move on.
3. What do you order at Starbucks?
Juice on ice. I don’t drink coffee, caffeine or warm drinks so…yeah, juice on ice.
4. Is there a movie that when you see it while flipping channels you have to stop and watch?
Shawshank Redemption or anything by John Hughes. Or The Goonies. I love me some Goonies.
5. Where is one place in the world you’re dying to visit?
My house after a housekeeper has been there. I’m not holding my breath for that one.
And now my question for all four ladies:
You can have a tea party with 3 fictional characters that are not yours. Who would you invite?
Kristi Helvig: Jo from Little Women, Sherlock Holmes, and Gandalf from Lord of the Rings. It would be an interesting little tea party, that’s for sure.
Amy Rolland: Albus Dumbledore is at the top of the list because that conversation would be epic. Huckleberry Finn because I always had a bit of a crush on him. And then the Mad Hatter because he’s great entertainment at tea parties.
Anne Blankman: Ooh, fun! I can only invite three? Mr. Darcy from PRIDE AND PREJUDICE because he’s my first book crush. Lucy from THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE because I desperately wanted to live her story when I was a kid. And Peter Pan, because, really, wouldn’t it be amazing to have a guest who could teach you how to fly?
Bethany Crandell: Eeeps! I don’t drink tea, so I’m going to modify this question a bit. If I were going to share lemonade with three fictional characters they would be: Jeb, from AG Howard’s SPLINTERED series, because eye candy makes every soiree better. Aspen, from Rebekah Crane’s, ASPEN, because I dig hanging out with sarcastic and witty chicks. And finally, FRANCES, the cartoon badger from the series of children’s books by Russell Hoban, because… walking, talking, dress-wearing badger…#enoughsaid

I wish I had some mysterious secret to reveal about myself in hopes that you’d find me interesting…but I don’t. When it comes to me, what you see is what you get. And what you get is an irreverent, sarcastic and emotional girl who writes stories about characters with these same traits.
I live in San Diego with my husband, two kiddos, and a chocolate lab who has no regard for personal space. I’m slightly obsessed with John Hughes and the wonderful collection of films he left behind, and I’m confident that Jake Ryan will be showing up on my doorstep any day now…
I firmly believe that prayer solves problems, and that laughter is the best medicine. Along with avocados. Avocados make the world a better place.
