The time it was about First & Then

Posted September 13, 2015 by Stacee in Blog Tours, Giveaways | 6 Comments

When I saw the tagline for First & Then, I was instantly sold.  I’ll read anything that has a Pride + Prejudice similarity, but then add in football and I’m pretty much elated.  And when I got the invite to be part of the blog tour, I hadn’t read the book yet, but I loved the idea Macmillan had.

Since the story is set in high school, we got to choose superlatives and then Emma would answer and we would too!

Before we get to our selections for Best Kiss, let’s check out the book, shall we?

23310751Devon Tennyson wouldn’t change a thing. She’s happy watching Friday night games from the bleachers, silently crushing on best friend Cas, and blissfully ignoring the future after high school. But the universe has other plans. It delivers Devon’s cousin Foster, an unrepentant social outlier with a surprising talent for football, and the obnoxiously superior and maddeningly attractive star running back, Ezra, right where she doesn’t want them first into her P.E. class and then into every other aspect of her life.

Pride and Prejudice meets Friday Night Lights in this contemporary novel about falling in love with the unexpected boy, with a new brother, and with yourself.

Sounds good, right?

Emma’s top 5 kisses in fiction:

Lydia/Seb— The Year of Secret Assignments, Jaclyn Moriarty
After trading letters back and forth, it’s so gratifying when Lydia and Seb finally meet up IRL.

Arabella/Reginald (Turnip)— The Mischief in the Mistletoe, Lauren Willig
These two are SO. FLIPPING. CUTE. And their kiss is every bit as adorable as they are!

Matthew/Kate— The Next Together, Lauren James
This is a reincarnation novel, meaning that we get multiple Matthew and Kate first kisses.

Hazel/Augustus— The Fault In Our Stars, John Green
It’s quite the payoff when these two finally kiss!

Lincoln/Beth— Attachments, Rainbow Rowell
There’s so much leading up to the moment when Lincoln and Beth kiss, and it’s such a lovely conclusion.

My top 5 kisses in fiction:

Noah and Mara — The Evolution of Mara Dyer, Michelle Hodkin
Pretty much any kiss between these two is my favorite, but there’s one particular scene in Evolution that involves Mara’s birthday, Noah in a tux, and the beach.  Count. Me. In.

Anna and Étienne — Anna and the French Kiss, Stephanie Perkins
After all of the waiting and flirty adorableness in this book, when they finally, finally, finally kiss, it was all just so worth it.

Gansey and Blue — Blue Lily, Lily Blue, Maggie Stiefvater
Okay, so this isn’t a kiss, but it’s a pretty hot non-kiss. I’m really hoping we get all of the kissing in The Raven King.  Although there’s a very real chance my head will explode if we do.

Noah and Brian — I’ll Give You the Sun, Jandy Nelson
I’m still struggling with finishing this book, but Keiko forced me to read the kiss scene between these two and just…damn.  DAMN.

Alina and the Darkling — Shadow & Bone, Leigh Bardugo
I was at a loss for the last kiss, so I took to Twitter.  Melinda Salisbury quickly named this pairing as one of her favorites.  After she provided me with the chapter it takes place in, I found it on my bookshelf to read the scene.  Yeah, she was absolutely right.  Go check it out.  Chapter 14.

I love the whole superlative idea of this tour! I’ve wanted to read this book ever since I saw ARCs popping up a while back on Twitter & Instagram. It sounds like something I’d love.

As for my favorite kiss in a book…there are so many…but right now it is one in Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. It’s so real & perfect, I sigh thinking about it.

  2. Gansey and Blue is the hottest not-kiss and there’s also the tree part to consider… omg Anna and Etienne is the ultimate! Best kiss! Such buildup. I don’t know most of Emma’s choices except Arabella and Turnip, and it’s been awhile since I read the book. Looks like I need to revisit it if the kiss is that good :) Love the post and this super fun blog tour idea.

I don’t know that I have a favourite kiss. I love them all, or most of them 0:)

Thanks for the shot at the giveaway!!!
